His mama was livetrapped and two kittens were still loose in the yard. We caught one and it was a spitfire. Unfortunately it was too dark to keep looking for the other one so we left mama in the livetrap for the night hoping the other baby would come out. That night the temperature got to 40 degrees Fahrenheit (about 5 degrees Celsius) and the other kitten had no mama or baby to sleep with and almost died of hypothermia. At the shelter where I work, when he arrived he had minutes left to live. We got him to a heater and got his body temperature up. After he was regulating heat we fed him and he ate like there was no tomorrow. The brother that was rescued the night before was fine, and in fact, a little monster. He was hissing, spitting, lunging at hands, all at 6 weeks of age. We had to remove them from mama seeing as she was feral, and if the kittens stayed with her they would only begin feral behavior, that is saying if they even survived living with her at the shelter. Feral cats often shut down and even with babies to take care of, won't nurse or act like a mother.
He's learning how to use a litterbox, how to be around people, and just loves to sleep in my hair.
